Fieldbook Fables: Autumn Portrait Sessions in Parker, CO
This October and November, I’m inviting a small number of couples, mothers, mothers-to-be, and their little ones into the wild for a series of storybook-inspired portrait sessions. A soft pause in the season. A chance to wander, play, be present, and let a little autumn magic unfold—captured through a tender, stirring, fine-arts lens.

The Storyteller

an introduction

I’m Kit—a photographer, writer, and dedicated field-noter of the wee, wild wonders.
I’ve spent much of my life exploring the edges of things: forests, hedgerows, shorelines, dusk-drenched hours, seasonal migrations, wisdoms held in ancestral folklore, and the curious little spaces (both real and abstract) where the familiar world seems to brush up against something wilder. Like leaves between the pages of a fieldbook, my photographs are a way of preserving the stories I gather in those wanderings—stories of the land and its inhabitants, of our bodies and their inhabitance, and of the self that is in relationship with it all: the self that remembers a softer, more feral way of being.
Now that I’ve made a home in Parker, Colorado, I’m beginning a new chapter of that fieldwork here, and this October I’m inviting a small handful of curious participants to share in this storytelling as I experiment with a new style of folkloric, ecological portraiture.
Who are the Fabled Folk?
Fieldbook Fables is for folk who love the idea of a photographic experience that values tender connection and mindful attention over performance. They want a storyteller who can leave room for sweetness, silliness, stillness, messiness, awkwardness, laughter, wonder, and all the beautiful in-between moments that tend to disappear when we try too hard to make a “pretty picture.” They’re looking to help tell an honest, authentic story because they recognise that the deepest beauty is in the humanness of it all.
You don’t need to be especially outdoorsy, and you certainly don’t need to know how to be in front of a camera. And no one—not even toddlers—needs to “cooperate.”
I’ll offer gentle invitations when they’re wanted, but otherwise I’ll leave space to wander, play, snuggle, investigate, imagine, rest, and follow whatever whim delights your attention. The hope is not to manufacture a perfect picture, but to make enough space for something true to unfold—and to pay attention when it does.
You don’t have to know how to be a model. You only have to know how to be with the people you love.
And I’ll be there to bear witness—to gather a little fieldbook of the quiet gestures, organic rituals, stirring exchanges, and tiny fables that make your story wholly your own.
the vision:
I’m imagining a world somewhere between a field journal and a well-loved storybook: autumn leaves underfoot, wool and linen, deep russets and mossy greens, weathered paths, small treasures gathered along the way. A little wild, a little wistful, and touched with the sort of magic that comes from remembering how to notice.
A chance to savour the details—the changing light, the cold in the air, the way a little hand fits into yours, the particular shape of this season of your life. There may be red pixie hats, old books, handmade dolls, quilted blankets, or other little objects that invite a story to unfold—but nothing needs to feel overly styled or costume-like. I’m drawn to things that feel tactile, lived-in, and beloved. The magic should feel as though it was already hiding there, waiting to be noticed.
Visually, I’m hoping to capture the warmth of a fading afternoon, the hush before winter, the beckoning glow of changing leaves, wind-tousled hair, muddy knees, small hands clutching treasures, and the particular golden light that makes an ordinary patch of woodland feel briefly enchanted.
Most of all, I want these photographs to feel timeless rather than nostalgic—rooted in a particular season and yet somehow belonging outside of time. Childlike without being childish. Whimsical without losing its wildness. A little bit fable, a little bit fieldwork, and wholly alive to the beauty of being here. . omething that remembers not only how you looked, but how it felt to be here, together, in this particular autumn.
